Thorsten Fleisch is a German experimental filmmaker who provides a very unique visual language in the fields of experimental filmmaking. His works have been shown at Ars Electronica, New York Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival and Transmediale amongst many, many others. He was involved in creating some of the special effects for the Gaspar Noe-directed movie „Enter the Void“, where I discovered his work for the first time.
Thorsten Fleisch experiments with both technical equipment as well as physical laws and phenomenons. A good example is his short movie „Energie“ (German for “energy”), which shows beams of electrons (controlled lightning). The result creates not only abstract but also beautiful and touching visuals. It is an audio-visual experience of ambient sound and “dancing” electrons.
Thorsten Fleisch cites the Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: The Iron Man) as one of his main influences.
