A new work exhibition by the Japanese artist collective, Dumb Type. This current exhibition is held in Tokyo which is a return exhibition from last year’s International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale in Italy.
The works are utilized maps and mirrors reflecting lasers trained on them to project messages onto the surrounding walls. The projected texts are all taken from an 1850’s geography textbook, posing simple yet universal fundamental questions.
Also surrounded by sounds whispering these messages from rotating parametric speakers in an empty dark space, becoming highly aware of beams and sound that travel around the space. It is an ambivalent meta and actual physical communication and always moving.
A place exists nowhere, but at the same time, there’s a place that could be anywhere. The core is void in a time of post-facts and liminal space. That’s where we live.
For this returning exhibition, Ryuichi Sakamoto joined in charge of the direct collection of soundscapes from various cities around the world. The soundscapes were originally designed for Dumb Type exhibition at Haus der Kunst in Germany, 2022. Sound works are played by different record players in the space which gives the extra special metaphysical experience and is worth visiting this rare, special exhibition.
