My Guitar music era slowly started in the late last year. This journal post is simply to share teaser of some favorite guitar-related artists and songs/albums that I have been personally listened a lot in the last six months.
Augustine Pereyra Lucena / La Runa
Augustine Pereyra Lucena is a legendary guitarist from Buenos Aires, and La Runa is one of his best-known albums, with a pleasant bossa nova acoustic guitar style. All the songs can be listened to in succession. “The Incredible Nana”, a live album of his improvised sessions with Nana Vasconcelos, is also highly recommended. It has more of the experimental and almost progressive psychedelic rock elements emerged throughout the improvised session. His vinyl records are apparently currently difficult to obtain. However it’s worth the wait.
Antonio Carlos Jobim / WAVE
WAVE is a classic-ever-lasting bossa nova album that probably needs no explanation. He is more of composer than a guitar player. Regardless, I certainly listen to this album often lately and WAVE has been the album that loved by many globally for many years. This album is often played at the Fueguira galleries, which is known as the top quality organic perfume brand from Argentina. The music at the galleries is selected by the owner, Julien Bedell who is also perfume sommelier, music producer, and the architect, who loves guitar and the Jobim’s album.
At the Azabudai Hills in Tokyo has their new gallery opened 2024: the wooden featured sophisticated lodge style, with the guitars designed by Bedel. The gallery offers visitors enjoyable guitar and jazz music selections of Bedel and quality wines from Argentina along with their aroma fragrance selections is a bit of special treat experience.
Grantby/ Further (remix)
British producer Grantby’s masterpiece remix work, ‘Further’ which is the originally produced by aus (we have the review post on both original (“Everis”, splendid) and the remix album).
Grantby’s eccentric and kinematic musical style is fascinating, and he seems to use a lot of guitar sounds. The guitar riffs in ‘Further’ are particularly solid and band style enhancements from the original which is slight opposite, by the result of, the remix would drawn many rock and music fans apart from electro, ambient and alternative fans. Grantby also contributed remix work for the Depeche Mode’s 12inch, ‘Ultra’ in 2022 which featured rock guitar sounds also.
Kim Myhr/ Sort Sol
Norwegian experimental guitarist, Kim Myhr is one of the owners of the Oslo based adventurous music label SOFA(we have previously featured them in the late 2023). Kim Myhr’s musical style is guitar-featured, experimental with organic elements in it. “Sort Sol” is the beautiful raw composition of organic blends in the strength that gives the listener an impression of the sounds heading straight for the sun.
Takuro Okada/ Mizu no yukue
From the single, “The Beach” was released in 2018. A Japanese guitarist, Takuro Okada’s sonic world broadens with an enriched style in experimental music elements. Okada is also active in a band work. The song, “Mizu-No-Yukue” has a beautiful glitched sound movement, as the title suggests, with a guitar sound that delivers to the sound of ‘water’. I used to listen to this song when I was in Kyoto, and for some reason it reminiscent of the beauty of water and scenery of the Kyoto city. Stunning sound pieces Okada cultivates thus worth listening to.
Yutaka Hirasaka/ Overflowed
A talented guitarist and music composer based in Tokyo. Also one of the most popular listened Japanese guitarists on digital platforms.
He started playing in bands under the influence of US indie post-punk, etc., and since 2012 he has released many albums as a solo artist, sound sources are mainly upon a fusion of ambient, field-recordings, and gentle guitar sounds, which are the opposite of the band sound he used to play.
All of the songs courtesy expressing a sense of transparency and daily scenery. I personally listen to his earlier albums ‘Colours’ and ‘Breath’ when I meditate or go for a walk.
Hirasawa also actively participates as a collaborator in guitar live performances with emerging artists such as Hiroki Sugi. Hirasaka seems actively travels around Japan for concerts and recently released a new single ‘Overflowed’ which is stunning piece of music composition.
