We see and live in a daily life and various aspects in matters that we relate to and often deliver the process of research or designing as a form of sounds as art.
Ironically yet the fact that still many music listeners tend to be stereotyped “experimental music” can be as challenging to sit and experience…or some are not even aware of sound art in general. Some see it as part of meditative music. There are various ways of expressing and reviewing. Without a text and knowing concepts, this genre could be easily misinterpreted to another typical perspective. It could be said that it is a profound art of communication.
To have an awareness of concepts and texts, those on one’s stale and scarcity mindset helps to open something new and adventure to your aesthetics and depth of understanding.In fact, experimental music these days has such a diverse range of musical styles that it is open for beginners.
SOFA Music is a longtime music label from Norway featuring experimental, “adventurous” music since 2003. The label is run by musicians Martin Taxt, Ingar Zach and Kim Myhr.
SOFA music has been dedicated to experimental music no doubt and their curation is very diverse and unique. Collaborating with different formats of arts, culture, perspectives, researches, and technologies as instruments to interpret and innovate.
What made myself fascinated by this label? Of course the name along with diverse and profound style of range of music and particularly the one album is called, “Second Room” which Martin Taxt’s second album in a series of researches on the relations between music and architecture.
On the album, Taxt featured the Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto and his ideas on different concepts of living and the acoustic environment, how it impacts human physicality and a way of behavior which leads to living. In a lecture at Harvard University in 2011, Fujimoto presented the nests and caves as case model to compare as fundamental concepts of organic and conformity design. By the environment and its acoustics, human physicality functions in a different way.
Martin Taxt used a form of sounds with horn instruments, double bass, church organ, hand bells and modular synthesizers to deliver the spaces and its concepts. It delivers the architect’s concepts and the process of research as sound and texts form to interpret well as a result, to drawn us to aware of our surroundings and the work which led to depth of adventure.
Numerous are released and all are so profound that it is difficult to pick where to start listening. Round Pattern selected their archives for SOFA Music beginners segmented by years.
