II by Von Spar, Eiko Ishibashi
Two music composers brought wonderful fusion music. Von Spar is a German band, Japanese female composer, Eiko Ishibashi and two drummers, Tatsuhiko Yamamoto and Joe Talia produced the song, “II”. The first released track is from the upcoming album “Album II” which will be released in September 2024.
Lovely session of soothing fusion rock meets a nice drone tone backbone gives the listeners a breeze of minimal yet uplifting groove vibe.
Von Spar is Cologne based experimental inspired pop music module (so called “band”) and they have worked with Ishibashi on previous albums. Their archives are all enjoyable with a sense of eclectic style which is worth listening to.
Also the session drummers, Joe Talie and Tatsuhiko Yamamoto are known globally as experimental drummers and often collaborate with Ishibashi such as “Kafka-Ken” by Yamamoto and Jim O’rourke.
II is a very fine quality of adventurous music session track with a quality, soothing, and top experimental music performers. I’m thrilled to listen to the rest of the albums (there will be two albums released in September 2024).

Heiwa (From the album, “Kofuu lll”) by Meitei
Hiroshima born music producer Meitei who is known as the own unique ambient and electronic music style which blends with profound literary and private perspectives of Japanese authenticity into a trip hop music. This track, “Heiwa” means “peace” in Japanese language, was released on the Hiroshima Remembrance Day on 6th August (released in 2023). August is a significant period for Japan to reflect on the past war and peace, such as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bomb to end World War Two.
Meitei’s track “Heiwa” refrains minimal, nostalgic, and peaceful melodies with a trip hop beats that made the track musically peaceful to pay tribute to the delicate layers of human history and summer ambience(its my perspective so it might be incorrect yet sounds peaceful and aesthetically appealing to such agendas). Meitei is currently on a Japan domestic tour and the majority of the shows are sold out. One of the most profound and worth keeping eyes and ears open to among today’s music producers from Japan.
Meitei’s “Heiwa” is available on Bandcamp and streaming platforms as well as on vinyl/CD formats.
